faith and spirituality

If you could broadcast a single lesson you've learned from your faith what would it be?  The most memorable lesson that comes to my mind is hearing my favorite pastor challenge his congregation:  Don't be afraid to Get out of the Boat.  The setting for this instruction was Jesus walking on the water.  While most pastors talk about Peter's faith to step out of the boat to walk toward Jesus, this pastor focused on the disciples who stayed in the boat and what an opportunity they missed because they were afraid.  It made an impact on me as I had recently made some changes in my life and was wondering if they were the right ones.  I was praying for God to lead me in a direction that would fill my empty places and at the same time be of help to others.  This lesson from my pastor taught me to take the risk, plunge on in and reap rewards I would never have thought of.  This faith has led me through some very interesting times, but what a richer life than sitting in the boat waiting for life to climb in there.

Funny you should ask. We probably have some kin there but none that I know. We're "a"cadian, vs. Cajun but my brother Joe currently lives there. We've met musicians and restaurant owners there named Cormier. It's definitely common and very French. That's about all I know.

I loved this story, especially the ending sentence. Wonderful imagery!

Risk gives us the opportunity to build our faith, and gives the Lord the opportunity to teach us new and challenging things, as you indicate. I can visualize the opportunities missed by the disciples as they "stayed in the boat."
